My personal Valentines Day gift from my wife was;

Two years ago found out the depth of deceit, lies, mistrust and unfaithfulness of so called partner for life., I handed her, her favourite chocolates, that took me over two weeks to pick up all over the Region, her gift to me was saying she wanted a divorce!

Hallmark Holiday, who cares,

I live completely off grid. There is no Water hook up, there is no power hook up!

In the topic I started about living in my Bug Out Vehicle it answers some of your questions. First off, I can afford a sticks and bricks location, I choose not too! This is part of my prepping and downsizing. I also feel at home here, not in a house now.
I have a bug out location, in the woods, at my buddy’s place, a secondary location that is closer to me, with a stocked pond and small woodland if needed.

Power;
some small solar panels right now at my Vehicle, my buddy has more for the property, we will bring them up in the spring. Winter time, they have to be in the sun getting position, all the time, or not enough power at all. Next winter I will have two small wind turbines, one self made and the other small one, store bought.
Wind in the winter, supplemental in summer, solar supplemental at these times..
Solar in Spring – Summer – Fall, wind supplemental at these times.

You must have at least one Charge controler to make sure you do not fry your batteries. Now on YouTube there is someone who made a charge controller that diverted excess power to a heat bank, can you say awesome in the Winter. The excess power is converted into heat, now I remember this, but can not find the link

Batteries right now, two smaller 12volt electric scooter deep cycle. Better option, Semi used deep cycle Golf Cart Batteries, or a Fork Lift battery. Do some poking around, you can pick those batteries up for about $50-80 used as opposed to $300 new.

Today, I asked about some solar panels that were in a Fireplace shop, they are not used, left overs that were not installed. They run $517 each with mounting hardware. They output, max 240 volts, do not remember the watts he told me, need to look that up. These are commercial, well made, not the rinky dink stuff that Canadian Tire sells. These will last a good long time.

Carbon, the cost of 30 -300 watt solar panels, would be absolutely huge, huge cost. With the larger Golf Cart or Forklift batteries, you might only need between 5-10, so big cost savings. A few weeks ago, I was speaking with a fellow that has had used Golf Cart Batteries being used now for about 5 years and they are still going strong.

Now, my question to everyone is this, why do you need so much power? Reduce your needs and you reduce what you need to run, less power used equals less power needed. Switch to LED lights, no heat, no loss of power, and take very little energy. I forgot after Xmas time to go and get a couple of strings of Christmas LED lights to use in the Camper. Lots of lights and very little power input.
If you have a Fridge that runs on power, consider two alternatives.
A. Propane, large full sized Propane Fridge, yes about 1000 but so much more eco friendly and power friendly. They have a 110 volt back up and can be run on one 1 pound bottle for about a month, wow energy miser. That is from literature. Propane appliances have grown up.
B. Consider building and investigating, Earth Fridges. Some are made like chest freezers that go into the ground, below your kitchen, some are stand up units, open right down to the ground and into the ground with wire baskets all the way up beyond your head level. They use ? induction? air flow to chill and cool.

My little crank radio that has been using the same set of rechargable batteries, actually on the same charge from last spring, if I remember correctly is very power efficient. The radio does have a hand crank, but that is a lot of cranking every 5 min or so, or 1 set of batteries, per every 2 years. It can also bring in the weather networks.

I stopped watching TV, do not even have it hooked up, sits in a corner in my Office. I watch on Laptop or on small porty DVD player that can also play into a Low cost LCD monitor, low power, great picture, small footprint as well.

Carbon, I have seen some Aquaponics system that mostly use gravity feed or small low power water pumps, natural lighting, it all keeps the cost of power down.

I do have a small genset, it is 800w but should have gotten a 1800w system. The I could use my battery charger with it!
I cook with propane, have wood or alcohol stove as a back up, use propane to heat but have kerosene as a back up and will soon install, make a small wood burner stove in the camper.
Lighting, look for the umbrella lights, they are awesome, LED, multi purpose and 12-24 LED lights that give great all around lighting. I also want the Xmass LED’s but will have to wait. Backup and nightly use of Kerosene and Oil lamps, along with homemade veggie oil lamps supply my lighting.

Cold Fusion, I want Cold fusion, that would be so cool and low cost no wonder the Governments and Oil companies as well as Nuclear keep shutting it down.

Permaculture/Prepper/Survivalist meeting tomorrow @http://www.envirosponsible.com 430pm whitby

Look for us = We will be in the Tipi in front of the store, with a wood fired portable stove. If there is a blizzard we will move the meeting inside. Sometimes the Rescue or Police Chopper stops by to say hello, they like the warm Tipi as well.

some items for your bug out bag

Tomorrow, there will be a meeting for Prepper’s, Permaculturalists and Survivalists at my buddy Chad’s business. His business is www.envirosponsible.com, Envirosponsible a place to pick up new, used refurbished building supplies. Eco business is the name of the game, and this is a great spot for it.

The time the meeting will take place is 4:30 pm, dress warm as we have it outside in the parachute Tipi. Topic will be knife comparison and bug out bag knife basics. . There might also be a mini swap meet, and discussion for a larger swap meet for the next meeting.

We have lively and informative chats about Permaculture, gardening with nature. Bug out Bag – BOB basics, survivalist info, such as the different types of knives and their uses and multiple uses, including how many or few you should have. There might also be some food there, but you can bring your own, bring some to share or bring that specialized cooker you home built, or picked up in Norway!

All meetings are the first Saturday of the Month, every month @ 4:30pm

This will be our 4th meeting and we are expecting anywhere from 7-15 people.

Paintergirl asked about living in my Truck so here it goes;
Yes, I live in my Truck full time, it has windows, vents and roof vent, the drawback is the roll up door in the back, in the future, I will look for the barn door style. In the spring will be operating my business storage out of it as well. I am downsizing everything. Too many types of services, so just paring it down to two.
Carpets; Commercial
Windows; Restoration and Resi – Commercial

Freedom on 4 wheels

I am getting rid of everything really. Take gear to the property, have a separate back up Van for bug out vehicle/storage and a small utility trailer. In the downsizing situation, right now I have a small office and storage set-up. The landlord is a real jackass, and in Two months, I will not have to deal with him ever again. In separating myself from the equation, I took almost 2 weeks to deliberate and look at where I want to go, what I want to do and how to go about doing it.

Most things I do now, I will not do soon. Window Cleaning and Window Restoration will be the main focus and Commercial Carpet cleaning will be the 3rd service. I will be able to keep everything in the back of the Truck-Camper as well as in the utility trailer. My spare Van, I hope to bring to my buddies place and use it for Prepper/Survivalist storage, use as a genset, yes, large one that gets good economy and is quieter than a Honda genset. Cost, just a bigger inverter!

Storage; you can use big plastic totes, yes, though right now I am sort of stealthy parking so can not have stuff that looks like I live there under the vehicle or beside it. Do not keep valuables in it though, mice will chew through them and thieves will take them! I can not stress that enough! I do have some metal locker/storage totes, that I will be filling up with stuff and putting in the back or in the spare van, mice! arrggggg..

Just get rid of stuff, we have way too much stuff, stuff stuff stuff! In the old days, people moved about with a Trunck that was it. Some cloths, some tools and knew how to make their own tools. I am downsizing, I went from a 3 bedroom house with a den and garage to my camper, back up van, work van and utility trailer, and my soon to be gone office storage. I am just selling off the equipment there, get rid of it, do not need to have heated space anymore and will save about $200+ a month.

I live off grid, stealthy in the back of a Farm. Providing Security, that is what I tell everyone who asks, or comes to the locked gate. The property has lots of machines and scrap metal there. Since I have been there, he has had no thefts at all. If you do not live stealthy by all means but skirting and cover the tires, it will save you tons on heating, and the floor will be much warmer. Right now, on top of the wood floor I have a basement rated under pad, and now about 5 layers of rugs and carpeting. If and when I do it again, I will not use resi carpeting, just carpets, and make sure they fit better, screw them down so they do not move about. Geezz do they ever float around if not tacked down!

Bubble Wrap in the windows makes them energy efficient and wind proof.

Solar for the battery charging, and I am trying to build a wind generator, but might just break down and buy one, ready made. I do have the little survival genset in the back of my Van right now, little dude old, bullet proof design 300 watts. The other is an 800 watt, Chicago Genset. This wattage it a bit low, so the upgrade will be 1500 or 2500 watts. The advantage is this 800 watter is light and can be moved very easily is fairly quite and starts great.

My little utility trailer fits on the back no problem pulling it, with my 7.3 ltr Diesel engine Ford 1988 Box Truck with Ambulance package. Now do not ask me what the package is, the only thing that was left of it, was the Vents and windows. The truck does need some work, that I am slowly getting around too. It does drive nice, gets better fuel mileage than my older Astros did, and rode nicer as well. It is a little loud when you drive, so will be putting in some more sound proofing in the cab.

The back is now separated into the front being the living area, and the back 1/3 is a workshop and storage area. Soon to house my genset, with a rubber mat to sit on, a muffler to make it quieter and to run the exhaust out the bottom. Air intake is by way of the non sealed rear roll up doors, way lots of air let me tell you.

I use the back as a shower area as well in the summer and in the winter, I make do in the front area, or just go to the gym. For the shower I use tap water that I get from the local gas station, very nice attendant lets me fill up a 7 gallon plastic pail. I then put some water, about a gallon into a pump up sprayer. Get in a plastic tub, pull the plastic sheet around me and use the spray pump as shower head. I use less than a Gallon normally, sometimes as little as 2 ltrs and come out smelling nice and fresh. Just ask my Dog, whom by the way needs a bath herself, thanks for reminding me. The grey water is emptied into a depression/hole in the ground and covered up. Dishes are cleaned using two hand held sprayers from the Dollar Store. One with soap already in it, I use Dove as it is more Eco friendly. By using the hand held sprayers, I save so much water it is great. You haul water in plastic totes or pails, you conserve water. The Gray water is disposed of the same way. For number 2 dodo, I use a porta potty and use kitty litter, waste is disposed of a few times a week. This way I do not have to worry about dumping and in the winter kitty litter does not freeze. This also does not use water, so saving water is great for me, in all aspects of living here. If it was permanent and not stealth I would utilize the rain water, which is very pure after the first 2 minutes of raining. (yes, lots of research and data to support it, also used my water tester to verify)

Well that is about all for now,
Cheers

I have 2 canvass tents, I plan on putting them together, with the stove in the middle and get a big canvass tarp to go over both enclosing them in. I want to buy some of the concrete footings for decks, get a 4×4 post or two, take to site and cut each to a level height. Then run some logs over them and tie them together, put some boards across, stuff some insulation under them and voila, a warm floor. Still looking for the link to the canvas tent maker in BC or Alberta who sells the chimney holes. I know that sounds weird, but the material is hard to source and it is fireproof, square outside and circular in the middle. Instant safe pipe hole for the tents.

The whole point of doing the tents, is that it will become a visitors centre later on, if we have visitors, or guests, they can stay there, and our Hovels, Homes will be still ours.

Any input or ideas on that issue, any other issues??
cheers and chat later.

I emailed 3 Canadian Companies about the fireholes.
Northwest Shelters sent me a reply in 20 min!!
Deluxe Wall Tents sent a reply in 2 hrs!!
Wow to both of them.
The third company I am still waiting for, though it has not been 24hrs yet.

Watch the Movie; Power of Community How Cuba survived Peak Oil Crisis (slovenski podnapisi) see how the US and Canada can be saved by Cuba
The US created a Peak Oil situation, compounded by the downfall of the Russian Economy.

Cuba has not only survived by thrived by learning Permaculture and redesigning their community and education models.
Can we do the same?

It is not too late, try reading about Permaculture, Googling it, youtubing it. Do whatever you can to learn, and start growing your own small permaculture gardens.

edit;
What am I up to Tonight

Do you really want to know what I am UP TO?

well now, watching documentaries on Prepping and Permaculture. Learning about the Cuban permaculture response to Peak Oil, US intervention and Russian economic collapse, that has help to shape the Cuban landscape and their peoples.

Making up some plans for my upcoming series of videos, for training and learning purposes. Setting up a framework for timings, location, content and execution of the videos.

Spoke with the director of the CBC Documentary today for the first time on the phone. We will be meeting at my buddies property, next weekend to go over the shooting sequences we had in mind for the documentary, and our set-up.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Puppy update;
She is being taught by me, how to stay,
how to stay in the back of the vehicle,
how not to get into trouble going into the garbabe!
how to heal properly,
how to walk on the left, not on the right side, like the last family
mistrained her to do.
other than that she is a big gently goofy puppy.
or forgot, how not to growl or bark at everyone she sees, scares the
crap out of them. Only I am allowed to do that, ;p

damn my dog just farted, new large puppy and changing food, and giving treats, and “O my Got in Himmel, time to open the vent up!”
cheers for now

“This program is designed to assist your family in building a food storage program using selected basic storage items.

The program has been prepared to help you follow the recommendations made by the First Presidency when they said: ‘We continue to encourage members to store sufficient food… for at least one year… We suggest that members concentrate on essential foods that sustain life, such as grains, legumes, cooking oil, powdered milk, salt, sugar or honey, and water. (Letter to Church leaders, June 24, 1988)

Learn how to use the basic foods. Plan to use them on a regular basis so that favorite recipes can be tested and incorporated into your menu. A broad variety of items is normally better for your overall health than just a few select items.

A prolonged diet of these foods by themselves may result in nutritional deficiencies, especially vitamins A and C. However such a diet should sustain life for at least 1 year. Ideally, other foods should be included in your storage program to fill the nutritional groups.

Fruits and vegetables in any form would enhance the nutritional value of this diet.”

A One Year
Food Storage Planner
(Similar to the Revelar Plan)

This plan is much like the Revelar Plan, and in most ways is similar to Food Storage Plan 1, however this plan has considerably more generous allowances per person. It also expands into some vegetables, a fruit item, hygiene and a few other miscellaneous items. We personally think many of the items are far too generous and wonder it might not be wiser to spend the extra money on more variety, especially in the vegetable and fruit areas.

Revelar’s software program is interactive and gives you the ability to enter product prices, family size, and even other products not shown in their original list. If you would be interested in knowing more about their program you can check into it at their site.
