Us and Memories of Nan, Nanny, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Greatgrandmother, Friend

To my Nan; Eulogy start
Who we are and what we are;
What we are is a Spirit/Soul
Who we are is a collection of memories and experiences, I choose memories that are good to remember, and experiences that are beneficial and helpful.

Let me explain a bit, my Nan died with Dementia, and this year due to an infection I lost almost all my memories and Facial recognition, as well as some nerve issues that were like paralysis. This in short is a mini Dementia.

So why share this about me, well maybe sharing this will help you with your memories about Her, my Nan, Nanny, Hazel, Mother,
Grandmother, Friend, for Who we are is determined by the shared memories and experiences with each other.

Similarities; My memories work by strong emotions and associations along with feelings. Her memories seemed to be the same way, do not remember her as the person in the wheel chair in the Home at the end, choose to remember her in your favourite memory, be it the little girl on the big work horse at the farm or the loving Mother or Grandmother bustling about during one of our Family get-togethers.

Remember; The person sitting over a cup of Tea and Cookies, O how she loved her Tea and Cookies. Strong tea, Earl Gray Tea, very Strong ;D
Remember; The person bustling about the kitchen, preparing food for the Gang, as she used to call everyone who came over. The Gang was made up of friends, family, acquaintances, neighbours, anyone really was welcomed to drop by, the Gang.
Remember; The Minister, the Mother, the Sister, the Friend, the Grandmother, the Lady at the Salvation Army Kettle, the Little Girl riding around the yard on the big work horse named Joe, squealing with delight, laughing along with her Father and other little sisters, those other little girls, eight of them running around the Farm and house.

What we are is the Spirit
Who we are is the collection of memories we leave with other, memories that never die, memories that stay hidden and locked away until the time for a laugh or smile is needed.
Remember; those times and memories, choose to remember happy shared times, put away those other recent memories, bury them deep for I believe she also lived in the happy memories.

Her memories of her life, with her young Minister Husband, her two small daughters, her little sisters running around on the farm, and when she came back closer to the present time, she remembered the Grandkids, Great grandkids, Nieces and Nephews, and family and Friends.

Remember; Who we are and What we are!

Health and Ageing Grandparents

What I did to Prep;
Talked to a CBC reporter on Prepping and Survivalism, on and off record, will see how that turns out.
Email negotiations with Vidographer who wants to do a Documentary on a Canadian who is starting preps to the Finish. Might be a consultant to that one, will see.

Came up with an improved system for Winterizing my 4 season Canvas Tent.
Started looking for another Van as this Astro piece o crap is dying fast.
In mail, picked up my new p38 and p51 can openers. The p38’s are smaller than what I expected and the p51 is about half the size of my old Canadian issue can opener, and a lot lighter as well.
Talked with my buddy who is organizing another Prepper/Survivalist meeting on the First weekend of December. It will be a makeshift Teepee Dinner and kit comparison meeting.
Started looking at ads for a Bull/English Mastiff, I miss my fur-friends
Heading up to the property Tomorrow to secure some tents, create some snow tarps over the dining and living tent to allow the snow to cascade over and down the side and not cave in the rooftops.
Heading into the bush on my Bike to pedal and think, allow Nature to reset into my Soul, my Favourite Church, the Church of Nature and God, the Creator.

family issues.
No sympathies please, just your silent understanding and SHFT thoughts on the following.
Phone call from my Mother went like this;
“Your Nan (my grandmother her mother) is in End Stage Dementia, and they are leaving her in the Nursing Home, giving her pain meds only and no intervenes, expect a call in 4-15 days about funeral/death”
My Mother then said, “I have I.P.F. and the diagnosis is 3-5 yrs, it is non-operable”
My Grandfather seems to have given up now that his 100th has passed and although he eats, he seems to want to go to the final Retirement, as he puts it.

So putting all feeling and emotion aside I told you this because, it is relevant to Prepping and Survivalism. In SHFT situations and scenarios, you will get similar if not worse news than I got today. Not asking or looking for pity, just think on your own scenarios, and prepare yourself for news that will affect you and your family. I new some of the news beforehand, as I am an adult with some very ageing Grandparents, so it is not looked forward to, only known it would be coming sometime.

Living in Tents and Alternate Structures

Q. How long have you stayed in a tent?

A. What do you want to know about living in a Tent in the Winter?
I have done so in the past on more than one occasion, and will do so again soon.

Lived in Tents,
all told total time or per occurrence?

Experience From Artic Warefare and Artic Survival, pre military including Cadets, military training in the Prairies and Northern Ontario, post military in BC and Mid level Ontario, quite a bit of time. Now to be fare some of the time in the military was in Tents, in Underground Shelters, in Vehicles and in some shell scrapes, under ground sheets and in Bivi Bags, all told, about 2.5 yrs total under tents or ground sheets. Longest stretch was aprox 4 months, though there were some times in Vehicles and trenches as well.

Least comfortable was the time in the hammock and time on the side of the Mountain in the Peranies/Peraneese (sp) Mountain Range in France. In France I had a new sleeping mat and it was slippery, although warm if you stayed on it all night! The Hammock was the get in and it wraps around you type, not the type with the wooden rod top and bottom that keeps the mesh away from your face and makes it easier when you have to get up quickly to pee in the middle of the night 0_o

Now, thinking on it some more, the total might be about 2 yrs higher as I forgot to add in Winter Camping and Spring, Summer and Fall camping both during my time in the Military and Pre Military and post military. Really not 100% sure, but from 3.5-6yrs total??

That also includes the times that I made Debris Hut / Wickup and other related survival shelters, during the summer and winter months.

Letter to someone asking about Preppers and documentary

so what do you all think of my letter? His question from a forum is posted below!

I might be interested, but will not have the same things happen that did to the Americans! Their locations were shown, in a couple of incidences and their names published. That will make you a target, have people show up and steal your stuff and generally make your life uncomfortable or down right nasty.

My Wilderness Return journey can be found on my blog, there is a link in my name, or on the personal page. My Prepping is done on the cheap, I am living in my survival vehicle, bug out vehicle and have a main area that I live in, a Bug out location that is my buddy’s and wife’s property that we are just starting on from scratch, and a secondary bug out location if things hit the fan and I am unable to get to my primary location in a hurry. Do not fee sorry for me, I can afford a sticks and bricks location if I wanted one, but after losing my 2nd house to another wife, I am actually happier in my vehicle, quite comfortable really. The vehicle is still in a state of upgrade work so some is only rough done in, it is my home.

My primary location, I also plan on living there part time this year, in the bush, building a Rocket Mass Heater for warmth and live there full time next winter in my canvas tent.
During the Summer I will be living there part time, due to the location, so working either one week and then one week in the bush or half a week each, will see what happens, as the future unfolds.

Most Preppers meet on the internet, some few meet in person, yesterday met some in the area for the first time. That was a nice change, talking to someone in RL who does not think your crazy. If I could talk to any of my Grandparents about this, they would wonder what the fuss was all about. Only two generations ago, having a supply of food and materials for 2-4 months was the normal state of affairs for most every North American. I believe we the Preppers now are just returning to our roots and dropping some of the pretence of this so called modern consumer driven society. An artificial society created in the 50’s to help drive the Economy.

Security for all, must be a clause that is written in the contract!

The question;
A documentary about prepping
by Docguy » Sun Nov 13, 2011 10:27 am

Hi everyone,

I am a writer for MC2 Communication Media. We prodce documentary and are currently pitching some idea to the CBC. One, and my personnal favorite, is a documentary about prepping in Canada. The idea is to get someone who is totally unprepared and to show how he could get ready if the worse happen. In this journey, we also meet with tachers and expert taht show us that there is indeed dangers of a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI event. The point to make to the “unpreppeared” (I don’t know if you have a term for us is: and if those preppers were right after all?, if the SHTF, should we not know a little more about good pratices?

I am awfully late, but we just received a confirmation of a meeting this week! I would like to put a little more meat around the bone of the project. My questions are really about the way you organise your lifes around prepping. What choices does it involve, is it expensive, why did you do it ans do you meet from time to time or is it more of a solo project.

If any of you have thought to share on those point, please feel free to write it down right here or mail me at: charles@mc2.ca. If we could have a short conversation over the phone, that would be great.

Also, and I know I should not point my finger but…, xxxxxx, I saw that you are a very active member of this commmunity. Since you are near Montreal, I would love if we could get in touch this monday in the morning (14th of november), that would really be nice.

Ok, this is it. I know I am taking somewhat of a long shot, but I think it worth it.

Thanks!

Charles
